Thank you for reading The Playlist: Teaching Modern Yoga. If you are enjoying this space, there are a few ways to let me know: hit that heart button, leave a comment or question, follow on Spotify or share with a fellow yoga student/teacher. It all helps and is a big, big deal. 💜
By the time you’re reading this, I’ve have been and may currently be at Comfest, the annual Community Festival in Columbus at Goodale Park. It’s something I look forward to every year. Even though I don’t really spend the *whole* weekend there anymore, I still love to stop down and enjoy a dole whip and local music. It’s a city tradition. Friday night highlights were seeing Weed Demon make a return to the festival and a fellow yoga teacher’s band Magnolia.
Comfest feels like the beginning of summer (this year it’s about a week late of what it has been in the past) happening just after the solstice. And then, the next week with July 4 feels like, dude wow, summer’s almost over. It’s kinda the way November feels like it smacks me in the face after the months-long build-up to Halloween, and yes, I am a Libra Sun with 6 Scorpio placements, it’s my damn season. But Comfest, yes, it’s a summer vibe and it happened this weekend.
Checking off all the boxes
I’ve been habit tracking since fall of last year, I’ve been going to Luna Dietrich’s Success Spells calls, and they’ve brought a lot of alignment to my days. I’ve noticed that my (maybe? it’s in my family?) ADHD brain needs to have a visual record of my to-do list, and printing it out makes it impossible to edit/add/change like I would digitally, just piling on more and more tasks. I’ve tracked all sorts of things: the number of times I post videos on social, book reading, business tasks, nervous system practices, journaling, workouts. It helps me feel more accomplished, and then there’s that marketing bro adage, “what gets tracked gets managed,” or whatever. It does work. Begrudgingly.
I order this bug spray because DEET, although effective, makes me feel icky. I hope it works.
In the studio, we’re chugging along with asymmetrical backbending, this time with leg lifts. It’s really, really strengthening for the hips and legs. And it’s hard.
Catch up on my latest about how to get your first paid gigs as a yoga teacher.
Sid Vicious our tuxboi would do anything to be let outside but when we do he takes off running, so it’s a no from me.
I’m a Patreon member of the Witch Wave Podcast, which I highly recommend, and Pam got us prepared for Cancer Season with the private patron-only circle last night. Diana stepping on a crustacean is the mood.

Slow and easy like a summer weekend
This playlist just flows like a slow summer morning. My playlist moods definitely change with the season. Summer tends to be lighter, brighter, sometimes danceable/sometimes slow unfurling tunes. This playlist is along that slow unfurling feel.
I have a whole organization system for my playlists in Spotify, my music player of choice. After one is created, I put it in a folder that I can dig through later for classes. Because I now have 170 playlists in my folder, I’ve got a backlog of possibilities. (I think) You can see from the outside that this playlist “Deep Forest” was created in 2019, named after the first song. Looking at when all the other tracks were added, I edited it last summer and then in January (I guess it has a January feel too?). January does have that slow, meandering feel after the holidays.
HAVE A GOOD WEEK 💜
I am so grateful you’re reading my little publication. I’m pouring my heart into it. If you enjoy it, there’s a couple things that make a huge difference: tap the heart, comment, share and if you’re feeling it, send me a message for something that made a difference to you. Did you use something in class? Did you have something else that came up? I’d love to hear it. If you’re not already, can you subscribe?
